A secondary graphic language of vintage nautical advertising and illustrative elements was created to inject the bar’s collateral with irreverence, reflecting the owner’s unique style of service. Combined with a considered, consistent and structured grid system this worked to reinforce the professionalism that underlies the easy-going style; this bar may be fun, but it also puts out some of the best drinks in the country.

Hospitality veterans Dave and Lois Kerr approached us with an empty space and a concept for a nautical-themed dive bar in inner city Melbourne. We worked closely with the Kerr’s to refine their concept, developing a name and creating a brand. Referencing nautical history without crossing into novelty, the identity touches on dive bar cues, such as American sporting motifs and neon lighting. We connected the concept with its medium through a custom type family and restrained sports team-esque palette.
